Now that you know a little about the Tony-nominated shows and performers, you need some ideas for what to eat and drink while you're watching the ceremony, right? Of course, I have some lovely suggestions for you, based on the show(s) you're cheering for! Here are some themed drinks and snacks to pair with your favorite nominated production. I'm only covering the nominees for Best Play and Best Musical for now - we'll see if I have time for some of the other categories between now and Sunday night!
The Lost Boys: It's vampire-themed and slightly gory, so I leaned into the blood.
Cocktail: Vampire's Kiss Martini
Moisten the edge of a martini glass with grenadine (or lemon juice) and dip in red decorator's sugar; chill. In a shaker with ice, combine 2 oz vodka, 1 oz Chambord (or other raspberry liqueur), 2 oz cranberry juice, 1 oz lemon juice, and 1/2 tablespoon grenadine. Shake until well-chilled and strain into prepared glass.
Mocktail: Skip the vodka and Chambord and double the amount of grenadine. Top with lemon or plain seltzer or 7-Up after pouring into the prepared glass.
Snack: Bloody Baked Brie
8 oz round of Brie
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
1/3 cup seedless raspberry jam
1 Tbsp honey
1/4 tsp sea salt
Fresh thyme (optional)
Preheat oven to 375. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay the puff pastry sheet on the tray. Spoon 3 Tbsp jam into the center and place the wheel of Brie on the jam. Place 2 more Tbsp jam on top of the Brie. Pull up the edges of the puff pastry and fold over the top of the Brie, sealing tightly at the center. (Trim off excess if needed.) Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden brown. Let cool for 5-7 minutes, then transfer to a serving plate, top with extra jam, drizzle with honey, sprinkle with sea salt, and garnish with thyme, if desired. Serve with crackers, toasted baguette slices, or apple wedges.
Schmigadoon!: Although it parodies multiple shows, Oklahoma! and the Scottish-themed Brigadoon are especially heavily featured.
Cocktail: The Famous Oklahoma Club Special
Fill a cocktail glass with ice and add 2 oz vodka, 1 oz limeade (or lemonade with a splash of lime juice), and 1 oz Sprite or 7-Up. Top with club soda and garnish with a lime and a lemon wedge.
Mocktail: Substitute additional lime- or lemonade for vodka.
Snack: Scottish Empire Biscuits
For the dough:
2 sticks butter, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
3-1/2 cups flour
For the topping and filling:
2 cups confectioners' sugar
Milk or water
Candied cherries, sliced in half
13 oz seedless raspberry jam
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and beat well. Gradually add the flour, mixing until it reaches a crumbly consistency. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board and knead gently until smooth, but do not overwork. Roll out to about 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into rounds with a biscuit or cookie cutter. Arrange on prepared baking sheet, leaving space between cookies. Bake for 8-10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack until completely cooled.
In a medium bowl, combine confectioners' sugar with a few tablespoons of milk or water until thick but still runny. Coat the top of each cookie, then top half the cookies with half a candied cherry. Top the other half of the cookies with a spoonful of jam, then add a cookie with a cherry on top to form a sandwich.
Titanique!: These would definitely have been served aboard Titanic and similar high-end steamships of that period.
Cocktail: Webster
In a cocktail shaker of ice, combine 2 oz gin, 1 oz white vermouth, 1/2 oz apricot brandy, and 1/2 oz lime juice. Shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lime peel.

6 Tbsp red onion, finely chopped
4 tsp Dijon mustard
4 tsp lime juice
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 loaf thin-sliced bread, crusts removed
Combine all ingredients except bread and mix well. Spread half the slices of bread with the mixture, top with remaining slicing, and cut into triangles or fingers with a sharp knife.
Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York): I could have featured New York AND London, but I just loved both these drink recipes, and with this title how could the snack NOT be cake?
Cocktail: New York Sour
In a cocktail shaker WITHOUT ice, combine 60 ml bourbon, 22 ml lemon juice, 15 ml simple syrup (or orgeat), and an egg white, and shake for 10-15 seconds. Add ice and shake for another 15 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Using a spoon, gently pour 15ml red wine on top, avoiding mixing. Garnish with a cherry and a twist of lemon.
Mocktail: Butterfly Fizz
In a tall glass, combine 1-1/4 oz honey, 1 oz lemon juice, 1-1/2 oz soda water. stirring until honey is fully dissolved. Fill the glass with crushed ice and top with more soda water, leaving a small amount of room at the top. Gently pour 1/4 oz orgeat or simple syrup over the top, forming a distinct layer. Gently add 1/4 strongly brewed butterfly pea tea and garnish with a lemon wheel.
Snack: Miniature Wedding Cakes
106 g cake flour
rounded 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 cup butter, softened
70 g sugar
33 g brown sugar
1 egg, room temperature
1-1/2 tsp vanilla extract
60 g sour cream, room temperature
75 g milk, room temperature
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line two mini cupcake pans with paper liners. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, and set aside. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter for 30 seconds on high speed. Add the sugars and beat at high speed for 2 minutes, until fluffy. Add egg and mix on medium speed for 45 seconds. Add sour cream and vanilla and mix on medium-low until just combined. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the flour mixture, mixing just until no dry flour is visible. Use a rubber spatula to make sure everything is folded in. Slowly drizzle in the milk with the mixer on low speed, just until combined. Spoon batter into the cupcake liners, filling about 2/3 full. Bake for 8-9 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center pulls out moist crumbs. Pop the cupcakes out with a butter knife as soon as possible, and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Once the cupcakes are completely cooler, use a piping bag with a large nozzle to pipe a swirl of your desired frosting on top of each cupcake.
The Balusters: The plot revolves around neighbors getting overly invested in each others' lives, so I have no doubt they sit on their porches and snoop. And one of the things their snooping reveals is that the neighborhood vegan is secretly addicted to pork dumplings.
Cocktail: Porch Rocker
In a tall glass of ice, stir together 2 parts sweetened iced tea, 2 parts lemonade, 1 part coconut rum, and a splash of lemon juice. Garnish with a wedge of lemon and a sprig of mint.
Mocktail: Make as above, but omit the coconut rum and top with a generous splash of toasted coconut seltzer.
Snack: Pork dumplings
You can make your own steamed pork buns using this recipe, but I'd just buy frozen dumplings.
Giant: Being the story of Roald Dahl, who published James and the Giant Peach in 1961, peach-themed treats feel right.
Cocktail: Peach CosmopolitanIn a cocktail shaker with ice, combine 1-1/2 oz vodka, 1 oz peach schnapps, 1 oz cranberry juice, and 1/2 oz lime juice and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a slice of peach or a lime wheel.
Mocktail: Fill a tall cocktail glass with ice and add 2 parts peach juice to 1 part cranberry juice, and stir, then top with lime seltzer and garnish with a slice of peach or a lime wheel.
Snack: No Bake Peach Bars
1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
6 Tbsp butter, melted
1/2 tsp cinnamon
pinch cloves
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup plus 3 Tbsp sugar (divided)
2 cups whipping cream
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 (21-oz) can peach pie filling
In a bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, cinnamon, and cloves. Add melted butter and blend with a fork until crumbs are moistened. Set aside 2 tablespoons of crumbs to sprinkle on the top. Press remaining crumb mixture into the bottom of a 9x9-inch pan that's been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, cream together cream cheese and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip the whipping cream, 3 tablespoons sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until well combined. Spread a little less than half the mixture evenly over the crust. Evenly spread peach pie filling over the whipped cream layer. Top pie filling layer with the remaining whipped cream/cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle the top with the reserved graham cracker crumbs. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight before serving.
Liberation: Partly set in the 1970s, a prime era for distinctive food and beverages, we're going full '70s with these recipes.
Cocktail: Harvey WallbangerFill a tall cocktail glass with ice, then add 1-1/2 oz vodka and 4 oz orange juice and stir gently. Using the back of a spoon, gently add 1/2 oz Galliano to float, and garnish with an orange wheel and a cherry.
Mocktail: Make as above, but omit vodka and Galliano and add a few drops of vanilla extract and a few dashes of Trinity bitters (optional).
Snack: Classic Deviled Eggs

2 Tbsp mayonnaise
1-1/2 Tbsp sweet pickle relish
1 tsp yellow mustard
1/4 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Paprika for garnish
Cut eggs in half lengthwise and place yolks in a medium bowl. Set egg white halves aside. Add mayonnaise to yolks and mash with a fork. Stir in relish, mustard, salt, and pepper. Spoon or pipe about 1 tablespoon filling into each egg white half and sprinkle with paprika.
Little Bear Ridge Road: Set in Idaho during the pandemic, I opted for some of the recipes I perfected during lockdown (yeah, I did a lot of birdwatching and bread baking).
Cocktail: Robin's NestIn a cocktail shaker over ice, combine 1 oz vodka, 1/2 oz creme de cacao, and 1 oz cranberry juice; shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry or fresh cranberries.
Mocktail: Fill a tall cocktail glass with ice, then fill 3/4 full with cranberry juice. Add several dashes of chocolate bitters (or a teaspoon or so of chocolate syrup) and stir well. Top with cranberry or plain ginger ale and garnish with a cherry or fresh cranberries.
Snacks: One-Hour Fluffy Rolls
1-1/2 cups warm water
1 Tbsp active dry yeast
2 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp butter, softened
1 tsp salt
4 cups flour
3 Tbsp melted butter for brushing on top
coarse sea salt
In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water and let stand for five minutes, or until foamy. Add the butter, salt, and 3 cups of flour, and mix until combined. Add additional flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and is only slightly sticky to the touch. Knead 3-5 minutes, until smooth. Cover and let rise 20 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400 and line a 9 x 13 pan with parchment paper. Gently punch the dough down and divide into 12 equal sized pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and space evenly in the prepared pan. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with sea salt, and let rise for an additional 15-20 minutes. Bake 13-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove and brush with butter. Let cool slightly before serving
