Last night was the 2025 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. I was able to watch the red carpet live, so my comments here are based both on the photos I researched online and on my own observations of the outfits as the wearers walked and moved. The SAG awards, like the BAFTAs which I reviewed yesterday, tend to be somewhat more restrained sartorially than events like the Academy Awards or even the Emmys, and this was certainly true last night. While there were a few looks that were genuine haute couture, the majority of the looks were more traditionally formal and wearable. The recent color trends on the red carpet lean heavily toward all- or mainly-black looks, as well as metallics, white and off-white, champagne/peach/pink and other pale shades, and dramatic reds, and last night's red carpet followed those trends. Other than red, there were very few vivid colors. So I have divided my review by colors, ending with a handful of looks that didn't quite fit into the most popular categories.
Black and Mostly Black
The Celebrity: Cristin Milioti
The Designer: Christian Dior
The Look: Sleeveless A-line gown with a plunging v-neck with a low narrow twisted cord wrapping around just below the bust and shoulder straps gathered in by twisted cords.
The Accessories: Large hanging circle diamond earrings, several bangle bracelets, and a pair of large diamond rings.
What I Liked: The neckline of the dress showed a lot of skin but stayed in place and moved well, as well as framing her face beautifully, and the overall silhouette was very flattering.
What I Didn't Like: Her hair and makeup felt a bit severe. An escaped tendril of hair or a softer chignon might have looked more balanced.
Bottom Line: A good look, but not quite great.
The Designers: Bottega Veneta custom gown, Christian Louboutin shoes, Tiffany & Co. jewelry
The Look: Strapless column with a leather bodice to the hip featuring princess seaming, with a fabric peplum over a pleated column skirt.
The Accessories: Dazzling gold and diamond necklace, bracelet, earrings, and ring.
What I Liked: The slim silhouette suited her figure, and I loved the way the leather panels were tailored. The slightly chunky jewelry worked well with the simple silhouette. Her waist-length wavy hair was gorgeous, and her makeup was natural and not overdone.
What I Didn't Like: The peplum fell too low on the hip, drawing the eye downward. Although the large necklace helped to draw it back up, the overall look was still somewhat bottom-heavy.
Bottom Line: It wasn't my favorite look, but she made it work relatively well.
The Celebrity: Elle Fanning
The Designers: Loewe custom gown, Cartier jewelry
The Look: Strapless velvet bodice with dramatic tutu-style peplum and silk column skirt.
The Accessories: Onyx and emerald choker necklace, matching bracelet and ring.
What I Liked: The peplum was dramatic but balanced, the jewelry was well-chosen, and the Veronica Lake-inspired peekaboo bob and vivid red lip were sheer perfection.
What I Didn't Like: Nothing.
Bottom Line: *chef's kiss*
The Designers: Carolina Herrera gown (from the Fall 2025 collection), Martin Katz jewelry
The Look: Strapless tea-length flared gown with a white-on-black floral print covered with a grid pattern of black bugle beads and additional bugle beading outlining the flowers.
The Accessories: Diamond leaf-motif necklace, diamond stud earrings, black strappy sandals.
What I Liked: The 1950s feel of the silhouette and the large floral print were both charming, but the black-and-white color scheme added a degree of elegance. Her necklace was fabulous, and her soft pink lip color and loose updo also struck a nice balance of fun and glamour.
What I Didn't Like: Although the beaded grid added a little sparkle from far away, up close the geometric pattern felt at odds with the otherwise relaxed and soft design.
Bottom Line: Other than the beading, this is a look that I would love wearing.

The Designer: Unknown
The Look: Straight, round-necked, floor-length shift dress with three-quarter sleeves with a black lace inset just below the elbow.
The Accessories: Long four-strand pearl necklace with a few grey pearls mixed in, pearl drop earrings, large pearl ring.
What I Liked: The touch of lace on the sleeves added a nice textural element to an otherwise very simple dress, the pearl necklace was gorgeous and just the right length and color, and her chic short hair and natural makeup were wonderful.
What I Didn't Like: The dress was a little shapeless for my taste. Although this is Rossellini's usual silhouette, I would love to have seen a bit of shape at the waist, or even a slightly bloused top with a dropped waist, if she wants to conceal a thickening figure.
The Designers: Dolce & Gabbana gown, Cathy Waterman jewelry
The Look: Fitted, spangled trumpet gown with a hint of train, topped with a long-sleeved feather shrug.
The Accessories: Tiny black and silver stud earrings, asymmetric black pumps, her signature silver pixie hair, nude lips, and lots of lashes.
What I Liked: The lines of the gown were flattering, the black against her silver hair was great, and her makeup was perfection.
What I Didn't Like: The feather shrug was clearly a nod to The Last Showgirl, the film for which she was nominated, but I found the sleeves to be a little too voluminous and out of proportion.
The Bottom Line: She looked so adorably pleased both with her look and to be at the ceremony that I couldn't help but love her look despite its minor flaws.
The Celebrity: Janelle James
The Designers: Sergio Hudson skirt, Christian Louboutin shoes, Beladora jewelry
The Look: Slim-fitting black skirt with a wide waistband, a slight flare at the knee, and a hint of a train, over a sheer black round-neck top, topped with a cropped ivory jacket with bell sleeves and a chain closure.
The Accessories: Dangling gold disk earrings, large ring,
What I Liked: The lines of the skirt were lovely, and I liked the style of the ivory jacket, especially the chain closure and flared sleeves.
What I Didn't Like: The sleeves of the jacket were a hair too long, and I didn't love the sheerness of the top or the vertical center seam. I would have preferred the addition of a spangled bra or an opaque bandeau top underneath.
Bottom Line: A cute enough look, but not particularly memorable or different.
The Celebrity: Jessica Gunning
The Designer: custom Marchesa
The Look: Velvet empire-waist gown with short train and taffeta shoulder drapes worn with one on the shoulder and one off.
The Accessories: Small stud earrings and several rings.
What I Liked: The way the neckline framed her face, her partly-pulled-back long wavy chestnut hair, and her deep red lips.
What I Didn't Like: The bulky, heavy feel of velvet and the stiffness of taffeta are not generally flattering on a larger figure, and leaving both drapes off the shoulder might have also lightened the overall impression visually by exposing more skin. I would have loved the addition of a sparkly necklace with a pop of color in a gemstone of some kind.
The Celebrity: Joey King
The Designers: Miu Miu custom version of a look from their Spring 2010 collection, Bucherer and Tourneau jewelry
The Look: Sheer nude bodice with ice-blue satin collar and yoke with crystal embellishments and black bandeau with clear and black crystal fringe and a black column skirt.
The Accessories: Diamond drop earrings and several diamond rings.
What I Liked: The crystal embellishments and fringe were lovely, and I appreciated the nude mesh under the bandeau which kept everything in place.
What I Didn't Like: The high waist of the skirt made King look extremely short-waisted, and the oversized collar in such a contrasting color didn't blend with the rest of the look.
Bottom Line: Without the collar, or with a smaller, charcoal gray collar, I would have loved this look. As it was, it was fine, but not great.
The Designers: vintage Chanel gown, Brilliant Earth jewelry
The Look: Strapless velvet trumpet gown with metallic gold beaded sunburst and flowers at the top of the bodice.
The Accessories: Black opera gloves, black pointy pumps, diamond stud earrings.
What I Liked: Pretty much everything! The black and gold was lovely with her striking red hair and red lips, and her full, wavy, flipped hairstyle was a nod to the '80s while not looking dated.
What I Didn't Like: When I first saw her, her superbright hair and lips felt like too strong of a look with the dress, but once I felt the '80s vibe it worked for me.
Bottom Line: This is retro '80s glam done right.
Fun Fact: Jamie Lee Curtis wore this gown to the American Cinematheque Awards in 1986.
The Designer: Zuhair Murad gown (from the Fall 2024 ready to wear collection), Aquazzura shoes, Bucherer jewelry
The Look: Strapless column with a plunging sweetheart neckline, narrow buckled belt, thigh-high slit, short train, and large rosette shoulder detail.
The Accessories: Large dangling diamond earrings, tennis bracelet, black satin envelope clutch, pointy black slingbacks.
What I Liked: The sleek silhouette, the tousled side-swept hair, the visual balance of the dark rosette and the leg exposed by the slit on the same side.
What I Didn't Like: There wasn't a lot I didn't like - possibly make the rosette just a touch smaller? But really, I liked this look just as it is.
Bottom Line: A fantastic look. Zuhair Murad is rapidly becoming one of my favorite red carpet designers, and Russell wears his designs exceptionally well.
The Celebrity: Kristen Bell
The Designer: Giorgio Armani Privé (from the spring 2025 couture collection)
The Look: Sheer strapless sheath with black and olive green bugle beading patterns over a nude base and multiple sheer black tiered short ruffles on the skirt.
The Accessories: Large teardrop earrings, several large gold and gemstone rings.
What I Liked: The overall silhouette was lovely and the beading was gorgeous, and although I'm not usually a fan of too many tiered ruffles, the sheerness of the fabric melded the tiers together in a graceful way that worked for me.
What I Didn't Like: Bell's hair looked thin and somewhat stringy. She's much more flattered by a shorter blunt cut.
Bottom Line: I preferred some of the other outfits she changed into while hosting, but this one was pretty and she wore it well.
The Celebrity: Leighton Meester
The Designer: Elie Saab gown (from the Spring 2025 collection), Mikimoto jewelry.
The Look: Strapless black crocheted lace column over a nude base with cascading neck scarf.
The Accessories: Large cultured pearl and diamond earrings.
What I Liked: The scalloped upper edge of the bodice created a soft, graceful line, as did the inverted V in the lace pattern at the hip. I also loved the neck scarf, and her long auburn waves pulled forward over one shoulder.
What I Didn't Like: There wasn't much I didn't like. The only thing I might have added would be a pearl bracelet or large pearl ring, simply because the earrings were so lovely.
The Celebrity: Lily Gladstone
The Designers: Gucci and indigenous designer Joe Big Mountain
The Look: Square-necked, short-sleeved spangled black sheath with black-and-white quill trim at the neckline and a multi-tiered skirt.
The Accessories: Dangling black-and-white circle earrings echoing the trim on the neckline, several delicate gold rings.
What I Liked: Like Kristen Bell's dress, the tiers of Gladstone's skirt were subtle enough that they worked for me, creating nice movement as the spangles caught the light. I loved the round earrings that matched the neckline, and the figure-hugging silhouette was great.
What I Didn't Like: I missed the way the necklace she had worn previously with the gown (see link below) filled in the neckline, but I did love the earrings, and a low choker with a matching smaller circle at the front might have served the purpose.
Bottom Line: I always love when celebrities re-wear a dress, and this is a great one on her. Well done.
Fun Fact: Gladstone previously wore this gown to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in 2024.
The Celebrity: Lisa Ann Walter
The Designer: Unknown
The Look: Fitted black velvet column with modified sweetheart neckline with an off-the-shoulder floor-length peach satin shrug with puffy short sleeves and a ruffled neckline.
The Accessories: Short diamond necklace, long diamond drop earrings, and black clutch bag.
What I Liked: The black velvet dress was lovely, if a little low-cut on her voluptuous figure. And I adored her auburn hair in a loose updo with a long wavy side tendril.
What I Didn't Like: The peach satin addition was a mess. The sleeves were out of proportion and there was an inexplicable horizontal seam about a foot from the hem that looked like a crease mark.
The Designers: Tony Ward (from the Spring/Summer 2025 couture collection), Mikimoto earrings
The Look: Strapless black ballgown with plunging sweetheart neckline with modesty panel and multicolor pearls covering the bodice and lessening down the skirt.
The Accessories: Crescent-shaped diamond earrings with a large dangling pearl, several narrow diamond rings.
What I Liked: The delightful rainbow of colors in the pearls, Bode's elegantly waved hair and low side chignon, the graceful bell shape of the skirt.
What I Didn't Like: Not a single thing.
Bottom Line: This gown was, hands down, my favorite look of the night. I would love to wear this look. *double chef's kiss*
The Celebrity: Nana Mensah
The Designer: custom Theophilio
The Look: Strapless black sequin trumpet gown with long train and black chiffon cape.
The Accessories: Long diamond drop earrings, diamond necklace, several large diamond rings, black pumps with angled rhinestone straps.
What I Liked: The shoes were to die for and I loved the long thin earrings with her short, angled bob.
What I Didn't Like: The necklace and front of the cape were competing with each other, and the less formal ankle-length hem of the skirt didn't work with the formality of the long train.
The Celebrity: Selena Gomez
The Designers: Celine custom gown, Messika jewelry
The Look: Black column with pleated portrait collar and long side front slit.
The Accessories: Black and silver drop earrings, several leaf-shaped rings plus her marquise diamond engagement ring, black strappy Jimmy Choo sandals.
What I Liked: The simplicity of the look, the flipped-under center-parted bob, the vivid coral lip, the perfect tailoring.
What I Didn't Like: Nothing.
The Celebrity: Sheryl Lee Ralph
The Designer: Sergio Hudson (from the 2025 Resort collection)
The Look: High-waisted black trumpet skirt with a short train, topped with a white pleated-front tuxedo shirt with French cuffs.
The Accessories: Multiple pearl necklaces, diamond tennis bracelet, diamond stud earrings, black shirt studs and cufflinks.
What I Liked: The piles of pearls were marvelously feminine, as was her softly waved hair.
What I Didn't Like: It was a slightly casual look for the red carpet, but not overly so, especially not for the SAG Awards.
The Designer: Unknown
The Look: Horizontally pleated strapless top with cropped wide-legged black pants, topped with a tailcoat.
The Accessories: Dangling triple circle earrings, white pocket square, double bangle bracelets, black ballet flats.
What I Liked: The pleated top was lovely and nicely tailored, and the cropped pants added a touch of whimsy to balance over the formal tailcoat. Also, her hair looked gorgeous.
What I Didn't Like: It felt like it needed a hint of soft color somewhere, perhaps in a pastel pocket square or even some light-colored shoes.
The Celebrity: Zoe Saldaña
The Designers: Saint Laurent gown and shoes, Cartier jewelry
The Look: Strapless one-sleeved black velvet sheath with wide rhinestone-encrusted shoulder ruffle.
The Accessories: Wide diamond mesh bracelet and matching earrings, black satin platform sandals.
What I Liked: The chainmail-style jewelry that echoed the shoulder ruffle tied the whole look together, and the single dark sleeve and extended sparkly ruffle somehow balanced each other visually for a really cohesive look. I also loved her sleek, pulled-back hair and delicate pink lip color.
What I Didn't Like: That I could never pull this look off myself? Because if I could, I absolutely would.
The Celebrity: Zooey Deschanel
The Designer: Giorgi Armani
The Look: Black A-line dress featuring a white tuxedo-style bib and white French cuffs, with a frothy black chiffon bow in place of a bow tie, and a wide satin belt.
The Accessories: Several rings, including one with a purple flower.
What I Liked: The overall silhouette was pretty, I liked the softness of the black bow, and her slightly poufed, half-up/half-down hairstyle was cute and subtly retro.
What I Didn't Like: The simplicity of the bib felt somewhat costume-y to me, giving the whole look a kitschy, casual vibe that didn't work.
Bottom Line: I love Zooey, but Wendie Malick's whimsical take on a tux did it better.
Fun Fact: Fiancé Jonathan Scott wore a white dinner jacket so they looked complementary instead of overly matching.
Pink, Peach, and Champagne
The Celebrity: Aisha DeeThe Designer: Paolo Sebastian (from the Autumn/Winter 2023 Couture collection)
The Look: Off-the-shoulder minidress with modified sweetheart neckline, shoulder drapes, and a sheer beaded tulle overlayer wrapping the bodice and falling from the hip into a short train.
The Accessories: Silver hair clips, silver strappy sandals.
What I Liked: The beading and wrapping of the bodice was masterfully done, and I like that the designer chose to leave the skirt unbeaded, which brought the focus up towards Dee's face. The diagonal straps of the sandals were graceful and lovely.
What I Didn't Like: Just a hint of deeper color in the beading might have worked better with her skin tone, and the way her hair was pinned close to her head to the temples felt very '70s to me, as did her pink eyeshadow. I also didn't love that the boning and seaming on the bodice was visible.
The Celebrity: Ali Ahn
The Designer: Mohammed Ashi for Ashi Studio gown, Pamela Zamore jewelry
The Look: All-cream ensemble comprising a full, floor-length chiffon skirt with a structured strapless, one-sleeved bodice with a curved, molded peplum, accented with bundles of yellow...exploding pine needles? mangy Tribbles? albino porcupines? placed asymmetrically on the shoulders.
The Accessories: Necklace of small gold disks and matching gold stud earrings.
What I Liked: The softness of the skirt was a perfect foil to the structured shapes of the impeccably and masterfully tailored top. I loved the curved line of the bodice hem and the beautifully fitted bustline. The slightly darker color of the shoulder accents gave a nice visual weight to the top of the ensemble.
What I Didn't Like: Whatever that stuff was on the shoulders, there was too much of it and it looked very itchy. A few tulle flowers would have worked better. Her limp bangs also needed a touch more volume and curl.
The Celebrity: Ariana Grande
The Designers: Loewe custom gown, Jared Atelier jewelry
The Look: Blush pink strapless gown accented with pink and white feather flowers, off-the-shoulder chiffon drapes, and a semi-sheer skirt overlay and train.
The Accessories: Diamond choker, small diamond drop earrings, double flower diamond ring, pointy-toed white pumps.
What I Liked: The delicate feather flowers added a light, ethereal feeling to the dress, and I loved the floral ring.
What I Didn't Like: I didn't love the hairstyle with the front sleeked down and a stiffly curled flip at the back. It didn't feel like it fit with the soft, airy feel of the dress. And I would have preferred a longer necklace than the choker.
The Celebrity: Erin Lim Rhodes
The Designer: Jean-Louis Sabaji (available from New York Dress for a cool $3,840, matching gloves included)
The Look: Pale peach strapless sheath with a corset top, hip ruching, and a sheer overlay with train, all appliqued with tiny 3-D flowers.
The Accessories: Twisted copper choker with matching bangle bracelets, several diamond rings.
What I Liked: The distribution of the tiny flowers was lovely, and the level of sheerness was just right. The ruching was a flattering detail.
What I Didn't Like: The way the train attached to the dress was, well, icky. Also, the color was too close to her skin tone, making her look a bit washed out, and I think I might have preferred either an updo or a half-up/half-down hairstyle, but those are truly minor nitpicks.
The Celebrity: Fran Drescher
The Designer: Unknown
The Look: Peach satin suit with tailored double-breasted hip-length jacket over a low-cut, sheer lace cami, and wide-leg trousers.
The Accessories: Diamond drop earrings, silver sparkly clutch, and matching peach peep-toe platform sandals.
What I Liked: Pretty much everything. Especially her long loose hair, as opposed to the high ponytail style she wore with this suit previously (see link below).
What I Didn't Like: Pretty much nothing.
Bottom Line: I'd love to wear this suit. It's glamorous yet businesslike and appropriately dressy yet comfortable. Winner winner!
The Celebrity: Jane Fonda
The Designer: Giorgio Armani custom gown, Pomallato jewelry
The Look: Peach and silver sequin patterned dress with a long-sleeve, round-neck top and multi-tiered column skirt accented with beaded fringe.
The Accessories: Large diamond drop earrings, diamond pave necklace, large diamond ring, and grey low heels with large rhinestone accents.
What I Liked: The overall silhouette was both flattering and age-appropriate, and I loved the way the fringe sparkled as she moved.
What I Didn't Like: The contrast of the larger pattern on the top with the smaller version in the skirt looked odd up close, and her hair (which may have been a wig) looked overly voluminous and stiff. Also, her foundation was very heavy and cakey-looking.
The Celebrity: Kerry Washington
The Designer: Giorgio Armani Privé
The Look: Rose gold high-necked, long-sleeved gown with silver lace and pearl beading covering the bodice, and a silk satin trumpet skirt with a pearl-embellished sheer overlay.
The Accessories: Several elaborate diamond rings, diamond earrings.
What I Liked: I adored the shine of the slim satin skirt under the fuller sheer overlay with its textural pearls, and the way the high neckline and her shoulder-length wavy hair framed her face.
What I Didn't Like: Going braless was not a successful choice (I was reminded of Gwyneth Paltrow's infamous goth outfit at the 2002 Oscars).
The Celebrity: Michelle Yeoh
The Designer: Giorgio Armani Privé (from the Spring Haute Couture 2025 collection)
The Look: Sleeveless round-neck trumpet dress with floral detailing and bead and sequin accents.
The Accessories: Diamond bangle, diamond-encrusted watch, diamond and pearl earrings, silver clutch bag.
What I Liked: The watercolor effect of the blue and mauve shading on the skirt was lovely, and the fabric looked lightweight and floaty. I also loved Yeoh's sideswept soft waves.
What I Didn't Like: I'm not a fan of big, heavy watches on the red carpet, especially when they're out of proportion with the rest of the jewelry and the look in general. But it's being done more frequently, so I'll have to give it a pass.
The Celebrity: Millie Bobby Brown
The Designers: Louis Vuitton gown, Chopard jewelry
The Look: Spaghetti strap, cowl-neck, bias-cut peach satin column with short train.
The Accessories: Large yellow and white diamond earrings, a yellow and white diamond ring, and gold sandals.
What I Liked: Bias-cut satin is extremely unforgiving, but Brown is positively rocking it. The sheen of the fabric plus the drape at the neck is all the visual interest this dress needs.
What I Didn't Like: The peach is perilously close to her skin tone, and with her usual dark brown hair it might have looked better than with her newly-blond 'do. But that is truly a tiny nit to pick.
The Celebrity: Sofia Carson
The Designers: Elie Saab gown (from the Spring/Summer 2025 Haute Couture collection), Chopard jewelry, Jimmy Choo shoes
The Look: Sleeveless peach crepe gown with pleated satin wrap across bodice forming a shoulder drape, and flared skirt pleated at the hip, with train.
The Accessories: Multi-strand diamond collar necklace, large diamond ring,
What I Liked: The contrast of the matte and satin finish fabrics, the lines of the satin drape, the tailoring of the hip pleats, and of course, the magnificent necklace.
What I Didn't Like: Her shiny dark hair was lovely, but I didn't like the wave of hair that covered her ear on one side. I would have preferred a more "standard" chignon.
Bottom Line: She looks stunning and glamorous, in a very different look that is memorable without being weird.
The Celebrity: Brooke Shields
The Designers: Simon Miller gown, Calvin Klein bag
The Look: Strapless metallic silver column
The Accessories: Chain necklace with a large caged quartz pendant, long diamond and black earrings, several diamond cuff bracelets, a gold bangle bracelet, a large diamond ring, pointy-toed silver slingbacks, and a small boxy silver clutch.
What I Liked: The silhouette showed off her amazing figure beautifully, the large statement necklace was great with the simple cut of the dress, and her shoes were fantastic.
What I Didn't Like: The chainmail style of the dress reminded many viewers, myself included, of a disco ball, giving the dress a very dated feel. A smoother, lighter metallic fabric might have worked better with this design. Also, the tiny box-shaped clutch was odd: no strap, an awkward shape to hold, and not really big enough to carry anything except maybe a Kleenex and a box of Tic Tacs.
Bottom Line: I liked her look better than a lot of others did, but she still could have done better.
Fun Fact: Shields' bag was a nod to her time as Calvin Klein's model and muse in the 1980s.
The Celebrity: Cynthia Erivo
The Designers: Givenchy by Alexander McQueen vintage gown (from the Fall 1997 couture collection), Christian Louboutin shoes, Bucherer jewelry
The Look: High-necked, bell-sleeved, flared shift dress in metallic silver basket-weave fabric with long fringe at the hem of the overlong sleeves and neckline, and a pointed hemline.
The Accessories: Who can see underneath all that fringe? She seems to be wearing her usual multiple silver hoop earrings and nose ring.
What I Liked: The silhouette of the main part of the dress (exclusive of the sleeves and fringe) was well-tailored and flattering, and I liked the basket-weave texture of the fabric.
What I Didn't Like: The fringe was too big and bulky to the point where she was being enveloped by the dress rather than wearing it. The fabric also looked terribly heavy, hot, and uncomfortable.
Bottom Line: This whole look was a big fat no from me.
The Designer: Celine
The Look: Metallic silver strapless column with a notched bustier bodice, thigh-length opaque underskirt, and a semi-sheer floor-length skirt.
The Accessories: Small silver ear cuff, metallic strappy sandals.
What I Liked: I loved the structure of the notched bodice and the semi-sheer skirt. The minimal accessories was a good choice with the textured metallic dress.
What I Didn't Like: The overall look was somehow boring. Perhaps it needed a gemstone necklace or a fancy updo.
Bottom Line: Pretty, but bland.
The Celebrity: Jackie Tohn
The Designer: Georges Hobeika gown (from the Spring 2024 collection), Jimmy Choo shoes
The Look: Nude-colored sleeveless gown with silver sequin art deco-style detailing on the bodice and sheer full skirt with short train.
The Accessories: Double silver chain bracelet, several large diamond rings, and dainty silver drop earrings.
What I Liked: The wide square neck and wide shoulder straps, the delicate embroidery, and the scalloped lines on the bodice, hip, and skirt.
What I Didn't Like: The skirt was overly sheer. I don't like the look of a sheer skirt over a leotard or granny panty. It always looks to me like her skirt accidentally got tucked into her pantyhose.
The Celebrity: Jessica Williams
The Designers: Rodarte gown, Tyler Ellis bag
The Look: Dark gold metallic halter gown with a v-neck and a slightly flared skirt.
The Accessories: Several small rings, hoop earrings, small black clutch.
What I Liked: I liked the way the fabric of the straps gathered at the neck, and the diagonal seaming below the bust. I also loved her long braided hairstyle with just a bit of height at the top.
What I Didn't Like: The overall look was too simple. It was more of a prom dress than a red carpet look.
The Designers: Louis Vuitton custom gown, Louis Vuitton shoes, Tiffany & Co. jewelry
The Look: Strapless silver satin column with princess-seamed bodice and wide diagonal hip drape with pouf at one hip.
The Accessories: Vintage diamond necklace and cocktail ring.
What I Liked: The lines of the dress were beautiful, and the hip drape was well-proportioned and avoided looking unbalanced. The silver color was great with her sleek, dark hair.
What I Didn't Like: The super red lip with minimal eye makeup felt unbalanced, drawing attention to her lips rather than her whole face. I would also have preferred a slightly longer necklace to fill more of the space above the top of the bodice.
The Celebrity: Moeka Hoshi
The Designer: Louis Vuitton
The Look: Silver sequin strapless bodice with a flared peplum and a dove gray chiffon full skirt attached the hem of the peplum, rather than underneath, with a small train and a lettuce hem.
The Accessories: A single silver ring and no other jewelry.
What I Liked: The fabrics of both the bodice and the skirt were lovely. I particularly liked the way the ruffled lettuce finish softened the lines of the skirt and the edge of the train.
What I Didn't Like: The peplum looked awkward and stiff, as if there was a small hula hoop stuck around her hips. She also needed some kind of sparkly accent near her face, such as diamond stud earrings or a rhinestone headband.
The Celebrity: Nicola Coughlan
The Designers: Christian Dior gown, Bucherer jewelry
The Look: Pale green taffeta tea-length wrap dress with portrait collar and full skirt with matching buckled belt.
The Accessories: Black leather elbow-length gloves, large diamond ring, tennis bracelet, diamond hoop earrings, black pumps.
What I Liked: The color and silhouette were perfect for her, and tea length was a great choice. The sleek chignon was simply lovely.
What I Didn't Like: The black leather gloves felt out of place in terms of both color and material, both of which needed to be lighter. And her cats' eye eyeliner was a bit overexaggerated, which made her look a little cross-eyed.
The Celebrity: Pamela Anderson
The Designers: Christian Dior gown, Pandora lab-created diamond jewelry
The Look: One-shouldered Grecian-inspired white column with a long shoulder drape and a tiny train.
The Accessories: Teardrop-shaped diamond pendant with matching earrings and bracelet, large diamond ring.
What I Liked: The simple lines of the gown were lovely on her, and the white set off her blond coloring nicely.
What I Didn't Like: Her hairstyle with its flipped-under bangs felt dated, and I wish she'd use a hint of lip tint and eye makeup to avoid looking too washed-out, but she's still gorgeous.
The Celebrity: Quinta Brunson
The Designers: Christian Dior gown (from the 2025 Resort Collection), Tiffany & Co. ear clips, Jean Schlumberger rings
The Look: Sleeveless ivory lace dress with a round neck, fitted bodice, full skirt, and ruffled hem.
The Accessories: Large diamond ear clips, multiple large rings.
What I Liked: This look felt much dressier and more red carpet-appropriate than the blue and tan lace dress from the same collection worn by Mimi Keene at the recent BAFTA Awards. It was well-proportioned for Brunson's curvy, petite figure. I loved her short, curly hair and smoky eye makeup.
What I Didn't Like: At very close range, the bodice was uncomfortably sheer, and I didn't love the dark lipliner with paler gloss. But those are incredibly minor flaws.
The Celebrity: Úrsula Corberó
The Designers: Loewe gown (from the Spring 2025 collection) and shoes, Cartier jewelry
The Look: White knit long-sleeved microminidress with round neck and bell-shaped skirt, trimmed with iridescent sequins.
The Accessories: White snake-shaped ring, small diamond stud earrings, white round-toed pumps with bugle-shaped heels.
What I Liked: The concept of the dress was cute. I liked the groovy '60s vibe.
What I Didn't Like: The dress felt like it should have been more fitted at the waist, so it had a more structured shape. I didn't mind the round toes of the shoes, but the heels were simply ugly. And it needed long colored pearls or a long pendant necklace, or even a colorful neck scarf.
Red
The Designer: Giorgio Armani Privé
The Look: Strapless column gown with a front panel of red georgette encrusted with red crystal beads and a structural, stiff bodice front, sheer side panel insets, and a black velvet back with a short center slit.
The Accessories: Diamond chandelier earrings, two diamond bangle bracelets, black platform sandals.
What I Liked: The way the bodice front flared slightly, and the peep of skin at the sides. I also loved the simple clean lines of the dress, mirrored in her shiny, straight hair.
What I Didn't Like: The shoes were a bit clunky-looking, but since they were barely visible, it wasn't really an issue.
The Celebrity: Danielle Deadwyler
The Designers: Louis Vuitton custom gown and shoes, LAGOS jewelry
The Look: Red strapless structural gown with two protruding sections of skirt, with ruffled tulle trim at the top of the bodice, the hem, and each horizontal seam.
The Accessories: Diamond chandelier earrings, several rings, delicate silver anklet, and red satin heels.
What I Liked: The color was great on her, her hair looked amazing, and the bodice was cute.
What I Didn't Like: The entire skirt, which looked like a Chinese paper lantern. It might have worked at the Met Gala, possibly even at the Oscars, but it was too weird for the SAG Awards. And her pink eye makeup was not flattering and clashed with the dress.
The Designers: Miu Miu gown, Bucherer jewelry
The Look: Deep red sleeveless satin column with a wide v-neck, empire waist with deep inverted pleats at the top of the skirt, and a thigh-length cape detail.
The Accessories: Long diamond earrings, four large silver and crystal brooches, and a diamond ring.
What I Liked: The color and fabric were gorgeous, as were Dodd's hair and makeup. I loved the neckline and the sparkly, randomly-placed brooches.
What I Didn't Like: The inverted pleats resulted in a puffy silhouette that made me wonder if Dodd was pregnant (she wasn't), and with the billowy cape at the back, the overall look was puffy rather than sleek.
The Designers: Christian Dior gown, Bulgari jewelry
The Look: Red column halter with a waist-deep plunging neckline, a narrow matching buckled belt, and a short rectangular train falling from the waist.
The Accessories: Diamond cuff bracelet, diamond ring, and diamond earrings.
What I Liked: The general silhouette worked well on her figure, and the color was terrific with her dark hair. And that diamond cuff is a stunner.
What I Didn't Like: The plunging neckline was too bare, and the under-bust seams did not fall in the right place relative to her figure. It wasn't bad from further back, but up close it looked terrible. The panels of the bodice should have been a single piece each with only a long vertical dart.
MiscellaneousThe Celebrity: Abby Elliott
The Designers: Alice + Olivia gown, Jimmy Choo shoes, Tyler Ellis bag
The Look: Pale yellow strapless ankle-length dress featuring a crushed fabric bodice and full pleated skirt with an overlapping front slit.
The Accessories: Diamond and opal teardrop earrings, large yellow diamond ring, pink diamond ring, tennis bracelet, yellow clutch, and yellow satin mules.
What I Liked: The color was pretty and fresh, and I loved the way the slightly shorter hem length showed off her adorable mules. Her sideswept wavy hair and soft makeup was in keeping with the delicate look.
What I Didn't Like: I would have loved a touch of another color mixed with the yellow in a print handbag or even some colored crystal trim on her handbag or shoes.
The Designer: vintage Christian Dior (from the 1968 Haute Couture collection)
The Look: Sleeveless A-line chartreuse silk shift dress with overlapping front opening and multiple rows of long feather trim.
The Accessories: Star-shaped diamond earrings, multiple large rings, a pink-and-white clutch shaped like a roller skate, and silver glitter platform pumps with ankle straps.
What I Liked: The color worked surprisingly well on her, and the '60s vibe was kind of fun, especially her Mary Tyler Moore flip hairstyle.
What I Didn't Like: She was working a little too hard for the retro look. All the frothy feathers and shapeless silhouette felt very Phyllis Diller (who also always worked too hard for her look), and the roller skate bag was simply too much.
The Designer: Gucci
The Look: Sleeveless chocolate brown satin column with a boat neck, cinched-in waist, and sparkly bugle beading and beaded fringe.
The Accessories: Two large gold cuff bracelets and a ring with a large dark gemstone. And her beaming 26-year-old son Charlie by her side, the best accessory of all.
What I Liked: The boat neck and straight silhouette are great on her petite but athletic figure, and the dark color brought out her gorgeous eyes.
What I Didn't Like: Most celebrities look better with a more defined waist; Foster actually looks better with a garment that falls straight down from the bustline.
The Designer: Carolina Herrera (from the Spring 2025 collection)
The Look: Sleeveless blue silk taffeta trumpet gown with round neck and scalloped hem ending in a short train.
The Accessories: Small silver ring, small stud earrings.
What I Liked: The overall silhouette was lovely and different, and the color was stunning.
What I Didn't Like: It felt under-styled and in need of some visible jewelry. a more interesting neckline, or a more dramatic hairstyle.
The Celebrity: Karen Pittman
The Designer: Carolina Herrera (from the Spring/Summer 2025 collection)
The Look: Empire-waist halter dress with a black velvet bodice and a full bright yellow skirt.
The Accessories: Multiple diamond tennis bracelets, wide diamond ring, small silver drop earrings.
What I Liked: The angled lines of the top of the skirt, the shape of the velvet bodice, the overall proportions of the dress.
What I Didn't Like: The hem was a hair too long, which caused the fabric to crumple and wrinkle at the hem.
Fun Fact: Joey King wore an almost identical look to the Academy Museum Gala in October 2024.
The Designer: Christian Siriano
The Look: Deep blue satin sleeveless column with a horizontally draped neckline, slight ruching across the front, and a tiny train.
The Accessories: Long diamond earrings, several diamond rings, a matching blue satin clutch, and matching blue platform sandals.
What I Liked: I loved the color, I loved the draping, I loved her hair and makeup.
What I Didn't Like: The dress was too tight across her belly, curving underneath instead of falling away from her body. This dress style should skim, never cling.
