I've covered spring fashions for adults and teens, but younger (elementary school) kids always need new clothes in the spring, because they've nearly always outgrown last year's sizes! So for kids, I like to focus on less expensive but still good quality clothes that they'll like and wear. Starting with the girls (the boys edition will follow soon!), here are some of my favorite current styles for spring that hopefully will be your kids' favorites, too.
Stores I focused on for girls wearing sizes 5-20 included Justice, Gap Kids, Old Navy, Target, Gymboree, Children's Place, Carter's, JC Penney, and Kohl's.
Similar looks: sweater-knit cherry top, strawberry cardigan, strawberry button-front cardigan, cherry printed plush half-zip sweatshirt
Tiered skirts and pastel colors (especially purples!!) are big for spring. This triple tiered swirl skirt ($13 at Justice) in violet (also available in bleach white, which is actually a multicolor pastel pattern, and pink) pairs with a sweet lace tee and sandals for a dressier look, or a baseball shirt and white slip-ons for a more athletic feel.
Pastel jeans are everywhere this season. These high rise '70s flare jeans ($27 at Gap) in creamy coral pair with a print tee and a bright cardigan for days that start cool and get warmer, or a striped pullover for cooler-all-day early spring weather.
Tops with just a little girlish flounce help transition between little girl clothes and more grown up tween looks. This Cat & Jack short ruffle striped ribbed t-shirt ($8 at Target) in dark pink works with a ruffled denim skirt or flared floral print leggings and either sandals or sporty platform sneakers.
Your little girl will love this Dino Friends long sleeve unicorn fleece hoodie ($20 at Gymboree) in pink, whether she pairs it with floral leggings or a pair of denim shorts. Wear it over a sleeveless top if it's likely to warm up, or a long-sleeve tee if it'll stay chilly.
Spring is still sweater weather (or, as we call it in New England, "sweatah weathah"), so pick up some basics like this Oshkosh striped pullover sweater ($22 at Carter's) to go under a pair of overalls for school or with a pair of dark-wash jeans and sparkly loafers for a family outing.

Girls love graphic tees featuring their favorite anime characters, like this Cinnamoroll crew neck short sleeve graphic t-shirt ($12 at JC Penney). Wear with embellished jeans or a solid-color skort and a denim jacket, and sparkly high-top sneakers.
Similar looks: My Melody and Kuromi tee, Hello Kitty tee, Hatsune Miku & Friends tee, Lost Gods floral manga tee
Long-sleeve tees are a must-have for spring, either solid basics or colorful prints and patterns, like this SO long sleeve oversize graphic tee ($15 at Kohl's) in "Support Each Other". Wear with terry joggers, flared leggings, or mid-rise skinny jeans.
Similar looks: long-sleeve LOVE graphic tee, long-sleeve floral ribbed tee, metallic heart long-sleeve tee, cotton ribbed long-sleeve tee
Similar looks: ombre sweater, split-neck pullover, striped chenille sweater, v-neck sweater
It's next to impossible to find pants for girls this age that aren't jeans, leggings, or sweatpants. So if you have a dress-up occasion, above-the-knee dresses are the way to go, like this Thereabouts short-sleeve A-line dress ($14 at JC Penney) in valley purple. If she's ready for her first pair of low heels, a low platform sandal might be just the ticket, or she might feel grown up in a flat but metallic sandal. You can also fancy her up by adding a pretty cardigan or shrug.

Happy shopping!
